I am an Extension Educator in 4-H Youth Development for University of Illinois Extension. I cover a four county territory developing special interest clubs (SPIN clubs) for Lake, McHenry, Kane and Kendall Counties in the northeastern part of Illinois. I am also part time instructor at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois teaching Cooperative Education career-related workshops.
I personally believe in education at all levels and for all people. As I endeavor into new realms of learning I find that the learning contract between student and instructor is a very useful tool in many face-to-face and virtual classroom settings. Online education and the incorporation of mixed media and online tools is an asset to the classroom…not only in creating a variety of learning styles and textures, but also in bringing some current learning materials to our audiences who are more tech savvy and interested in non-traditional learning.
Volunteering and Interests
Work and the pursuit of education are not my only interests. I am a wife, mother of a child we adopted from China in 2006 and share legal guardianship of my husband's developmentally disabled sister. I have lived in northern Illinois my entire life (with the exception of my two years in Oshkosh for my Bachelor degree and two years working in Adams County, Wisconsin as their 4-H Agent). Presently, my family and I live in a tiny house in Wonder Lake, Illinois and dream constantly of moving to rural Wisconsin.
I enjoy goofing around with my family, embroidery and reading. I presently am a Trustee for the Rural Woodstock Library District and also am volunteering for Love Without Boundaries as their Social Media and Internet Development Coordinator.
I love the cooler weather, but admit that winter 2009-10 is wearing on me already. What is up with all this snow?! Bring on new flower blossoms, freshly turned dirt and the twitching whiskers of the Easter bunny.
